The Past-Chair of Swine Innovation Porc says preparations are now well underway for Canadian Swine Research and Development Cluster 4.
Earlier this month Swine Innovation Porc released its 2020-2021 annual report.
Stewart Cressman, the Past-Chair of Swine Innovation Porc, says priorities are now being identified for the research cluster that will begin in the spring of 2023.

Since 2010 there's been three clusters of five years each and the new one would start April 1, 2023.
Ahead of that there's a lot of preparation that needs to occur, priority setting.
As we look at the industry we see priority setting is occurring on almost a continuing basis but we want to make sure that we have the opportunity, especially with these large funding grants once every five years, there's a lot of research activity that gets initiated and you want to be able to get the priorities right at that time.
Then there's other programs that you attempt to backfill in terms of getting the priorities sorted out, maybe to a lesser degree in between the start of the major cluster programs.

Cressman notes, as part of this current cluster, the federal government has committed to two thirds of the funding for specific projects and one third has had to come from other sources, including 25 percent from the research institution with Swine Innovation Porc making up the balance of private cash needed.
