University of Manitoba Observes Several Milestones in 2016
Myrna Grahn - University of Manitoba

Farmscape for June 16, 2016

The Manager of the Bruce D. Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre says the University of Manitoba will be observing several significant milestones during 2016.
The University of Manitoba's Bruce D. Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre, located at the Glenlea Research Station south of Winnipeg, was created 5 years ago to help share with elementary and high school students as well as the general public the story of where our food comes from.
Centre Manager Myrna Grahn says the University will be observing some significant milestones this summer.

Clip-Myrna Grahn-University of Manitoba:
This year, 2016, is a really big year for the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences.
The faculty itself is celebrating 110 years.
We have Glenlea Research Station which is our location just 15 minutes south of Winnipeg on highway 75.
Glenlea is 50 years old.
We have our Glenlea long term crop rotation study, which is our organic plots.
It is outstanding in that it has been operating for 25 years.
That is not only the longest standing plots for Canada but also for North America.
Then we have the Richardson Centre for Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals celebrating its 10 anniversary and here, the Bruce D. Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre we're celebrating 5 years so we have a number of milestones that we have special events that are happening throughout the summer.
We have our Family Summer Programming.
On our web site families can find summer camp programs and different events.
Every Saturday in the mornings we're gong to be doing an ice cream party, maybe an insect day.
We're going to bake bannock, we have an outside pizza oven.
We're going to be doing a dairy day, canola crush and then in August a Bacon makes it Better event.
That's a new one for us this year and we're gong to be having these happening throughout the summer.
