Saskatchewan Crop Development Running Ahead of Average

Saskatchewan Agriculture reports the development of the majority of crops planted this year is running ahead of average.
Saskatchewan Agriculture issued its weekly Crop Report for the Period from June 13 to June 19 yesterday.
Brent Flaten an Integrated Pest Management Specialist with Saskatchewan Agriculture, reports there's been a lot of variability within the province.

Clip-Brent Flaten-Saskatchewan Agriculture:
88 percent of the fall cereals, 60 percent of the spring cereals, 56 percent of the oilseeds and 70 percent of the pulse crops are at or ahead of their normal development for this year.
There's still some crops that are delayed due to late seeding, either due to wet conditions or harvesting that still had to be done this spring and also some dry conditions holding back the crop.
We received rain this past week and it really varied across the province, anywhere from a trace to 112 millimeters so a lot of variability there.
Soil moisture conditions on the cropland is rated as 10 percent surplus, 68 percent adequate and 18 percent short and four percent very short with a lot of variation within the province.
Some areas are quite moist, for example the Prince Albert, Choiceland, Paddockwood over to Meadow Lake, Turtleford, Lloydminster, those areas have lots of moisture.
The driest areas are occurring in the Coronach, Assiniboia, Kyle, Swift Current, Shaunavon, Maple Creek areas.

Flaten says it's getting late so, unless it's for greenfeed or silage, seeding of spring crops wrapped up and, while figures are not yet available, there will be unseeded acres.
He says some of those acres may be seeded to winter wheat or fall rye later on.
