Manitoba Pork Council has released a brand new pork recipe brochure.

The brochure, "Recipes for Friends and Family," was developed by the home economists at Manitoba pork Council and will be distributed through retail outlets over the next couple of weeks, to home newspaper delivery customers in Winnipeg in early November and it will be available at pickpork.com.

Home economist Marlene McDonald says some of the recipes are for every day while others are a little fancier suitable for entertaining during the upcoming holiday season.

The recipes use a variety of cuts and we try to do this in all our recipe brochures is to focus on a variety of pork cuts.

This one uses pork loin roast, pork schnitzel or scaloppini, pork tenderloins which of course everyone likes.

We also use pork braising cubes, one of the less expensive cuts, a lean ground pork and pork loin chops, the thick type that are stuffed, so there's a recipe to suit every taste.

They're wonderful for the cooler weather.

Some of them are kind of like comfort food and some of them are a little bit more elegant.

All of the recipes have complete information.

They've all been analyzed for nutrients so anybody who is interested in checking on the carbohydrates or the fat or sodium content of the recipes, the information is right there.

This is especially important for people who are on restricted diets, people like diabetics and so on, who might want the particular information to suit their diet.

In addition to the recipes there are also some food handling tips on the back page, just some basic food safety information.

We have wonderful wholesome high quality pork in Manitoba and we want people to be able to keep it that way in the home so there are some handling tips with regards to food safety in the kitchen.

McDonald notes the recipes use local ingredients wherever possible and are generally easy to medium to prepare.
