Cooking Completion Brings together Farmers, Chefs and Consumers
Adele Buettner - Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan

Farmscape for July 26, 2018

A Project Manager with Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan says Taste of Saskatchewan provided the opportunity for those involved in farming to interact directly with thousands of their non-farming counterparts.
Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan hosted this year's Chef's Series, a black box cooking completion, held as part of Taste of Saskatchewan, a six day celebration of the different cuisines available in Saskatoon held annually on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River.
Adele Buettner, a Project Manager with Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan, says the completion drew crowds between 300 and 400 people while Taste of Saskatchewan itself attracted an estimated 100 thousand visitors.

Clip-Adele Buettner-Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan:
The big benefit is we have the opportunity to showcase some of the great products that we grow here on farms and ranches in Saskatchewan and chefs are given a very small frame of time to create a tantalizing dish using our variety of products in really diverse and creative ways so it shows that we have some of the best food in the world here coming from Saskatchewan.
It gives them the opportunity to really connect with what we grow and with what we serve.
That's an awesome opportunity for our chefs but it's really great for our audience to see that as well and for our various MCs, of which we draw from our local media to chair the various competitions.
During the span of the 45 minutes when the chefs compete, the media personalities who are acting as MCs are able to share some interesting farm facts and food facts with our audience which is a really great exchange and a big conversation between those that are cheering on the chefs.

Buettner notes a highlight this year was Meet a Farmer Day Saturday where volunteers from local farms and ranches where on hand to talk to non farmers about how the various ingredients are grown and discuss how these products move from the farm to the table.
