George Matheson - Manitoba Pork

Farmscape for November 24, 2017

The Chair of Manitoba Pork says Manitoba's Speech from the Throne, delivered Monday, demonstrates the provincial government's commitment to agriculture.
On Monday Lieutenant-Governor Janice Filmon delivered the speech from the throne opening the third session of the 41st Manitoba legislature.
Highlights relating to agriculture included references to Manitoba's commitment to the new Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the Made-in-Manitoba Climate and Green Plan, and ongoing efforts to find and eliminate job-killing red tape.
George Matheson, the Chair of Manitoba Pork, applauds the prominent role of agriculture in the throne speech.

Clip-George Matheson-Manitoba Pork:
The Lieutenant-Governor mentioned quite a few generalities in regards to agriculture and more specifically livestock, which was good to hear from our point of view.
She did mention the growing demand for protein sources and the need to, as a result of that, to promote new production facilities and also to support our processing plants which of course are of vital importance to the livestock industry in the province.
Number one, it was good to hear that agriculture was mentioned and I would say fairly often.
We do feel that this particular government is listening.
We're very pleased with the Minister of Agriculture and what he is doing for us and we feel that agriculture is important to this government and to the province and they will work with us to continue to improve things for us.

Matheson acknowledges, as expected, the throne speech did not contain a lot of detail however he says Manitoba Pork is very pleased with its general message and its support for agriculture.
